Today is the final day of this year’s Spring Fever, hosted by the Student Activities Board.
To start the day, an inflatable rock-climbing wall will be set up from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Quad.
Then, at 7 p.m., this year’s Spring Fever concert will begin. It opens with Sam & Ruby, a pop/folk/soul duo out of Nashville, comprised of Sam Brooker and Ruby Amanfu.
Robert Randolph and the Family Band will take the stage at 8 p.m. This Grammy-nominated band is known for putting on “an amazing live performance,” in the words of Brandon Cartwright, one of the Spring Fever chairs.
The group’s music has been described as an eclectic combination of rock, funk and soul. Food and bar service will be provided at the concert by Chartwells. The event is free to all SLU students. A fireworks display will follow the show.
Though last year’s Spring Fever included more events, this year SAB said it’s going for a quality approach rather than quantity. Still, some students remain apprehensive.
“[This year’s performers] are much higher quality than a lot of the other performances SAB has brought to SLU,” said Tony Besse, a sophomore who will be attending the show. “A lot of my friends are not giving them a chance because they aren’t familiar with them, but I’m very excited about seeing them!”
One reason why SAB chose Robert Randolph was because of his highly praised performance. “We want people to walk away from the concert and say, ‘Wow, that was an incredible show,'” said Ryan Wiesen, one of the Spring Fever chairs.
“This year’s Spring Fever is unlike anything we’ve ever done before,” said Cartwright. “The 24-foot climbing wall, the double feature movie, the Grammy nominated artist … all an effort to meet the student body’s request for events that exhibit good quality.”
