Midwest acts set to descend at Fubar

Local music aficionados can get a taste of two bands on the rise this weekend.

301 Broadway, a St. Louis-based rock group, and Blackjack Rover, a Chicago-based group, will be playing at Fubar Sept. 12, starting at 4 p.m. The Music Greenhouse, a production and promotion company for up-and-coming bands based out of Minneapolis, is organizing the event.

“We’ve done a lot of the work in picking out the best acts in the Midwest, and we’re putting on a show in St. Louis right in your own backyard,” Aaron Cackoski, president of The Music Greenhouse, said. “We’re just taking out the best bands in the Midwest that are unsigned . We brought them down to Fubar.”

As the name suggests, The Music Greenhouse has been working with fledgling artists since 2006, helping bands network and gain attention through promotional concerts and events like this one.

“We’re an artistic development company . We look for artists that are unsigned . We help them out,” Cackoski said. “We help them bring their music to the next level . We’re looking for bands that have the want to get to that next level.”

301 Broadway is no stranger to Fubar, having won a battle of the bands competition at the venue recently.

“We played with four other acts, some talented musicians,” Adam Lowery of 301 Broadway, said. “The venue was cool. They took real good care of it.”

Lowery describes the sound of 301 Broadway as one not all together unfamiliar to college-aged fans.

“We like to party. We’re just a fun, party-rock kind of band,” he said. “We’re not metal, not funk, just fun party rock.”

Joe Vaclavik of Blackjack Rover similarly describes the type of show he hopes to put on for an audience this weekend.

“It’s a high-energy rock show . It’s really kind of in your face and energetic. We’re a good party band,” he said.

Cackoski says it took a lot of talent searching to find 301 Broadway and Blackjack Rover. He said he feels what makes them special is a combination of songwriting and showmanship.

“The biggest things with these two is the songs they’ve written . And they also put on great stage shows,” he said. “They have the full package. They have great songs, and they know how to perform them.”

The Music Greenhouse has had success with similar events in the past, and Cackoski hopes this week’s concert will follow suit.

“We definitely put all the bricks in place, and now we’re just ready to get the fans in there,” he said.

Tickets to the show are $8, $6 for students with a valid ID. Fubar is located at 3108 Locust St. For more information about the venue, visit www,fubarstl.com
