In this day and age, computer technology is everywhere. With the new abundance of computerization, however, comes a host of new problems.
To cope with these problems, Saint Louis University is opening a brand new Technology Service Center on the first floor of the Busch Student Center. It’s set to open after winter break.
“The BSC-TSC will be run out of Information Technology Services,” Chris Grabau, manager of the BSC, said. “We’re very excited to have it opening. There’s a growing need for tech services and having a support center in the BSC would be good for all.”
The BSC-TSC is located in BSC room 137. It will be very similar to the ITS center in Des Peres Hall, but with some new additions.
“The main difference is the computing center,” Megan Greathouse, an ITS customer service worker, said. “We’re going to have pay-for-print printers, computers for homework and email, a flat-screen TV for presentations and some lounge chairs for group projects. It will be a lot like the Student Success center.”
The BSC-TSC will also include stations for faxing and copy machines.
Developers regard student input as a top priority. “We’ll be sending out a survey through SLU Connection or the [Student Government Association] mailer asking students when they think our hours should be, and what kind of extra services we should offer as opposed to ITS deciding it all,” Greathouse said.
The BSC-TSC is also setting up a website that, in addition to giving information about the services, will provide links to various computer companies from which students can purchase computers and supplies.
The BSC-TSC’s grand opening will occur at the beginning of the spring semester, but the Student Service element is open during construction. Staff is on hand in BSC 137, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
