On Wednesday Oct. 13, Saint Louis University released a brief statement regarding the enrollment of two men’s basketball players.
The statement from SLU:
“Saint Louis University men’s basketball players Kwamain Mitchell and Willie Reed are currently not enrolled at the University. Federal law — the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) — does not allow the University to release any additional information without the consent of the students involved.”
Further details to come at unewsonline.com and in the October 21st edition.

How can they kick them out if they were not charged and prosecuted? SLU should have respected the police’s findings. Unfortunately, when you’re accused of something so violent, regardless of innocence, that accusation sticks with you. Of course, I have no clue if the alleged incident really happened, and if it did, they should be punished. When the police say that they have insufficient evidence, it speaks volumes. Obviously they found no physical evidence of a crime, no skin under her fingernails, no hair found, etc. What a messy situation.

The previous two comments were made purely out of ignorance. The administration handled the situation poorly, to say the least and the decision will haunt the university for years to come.

How is that justice? These two were cleared of sexual assault by the law and the school. Get your facts straight.

I think the school was wrong!!! If the law dropped it and did not find them guilty then the school should have dropped it as well!!!

I’m assuming the two posters above know all the facts in order to be so certain justice was served. That must be nice. I’m pretty sure even the board that suspended the players doesn’t know all of the facts. Also, is it justice when the defendants don’t get the same rights in the courtroom that the accuser does?

Perhaps any serving of justice should be postponed until the facts are clear. Seeing how this is quite a sensitive matter, and none of us should have any privilege to the facts, we should just mind our own business and let those who are qualified control the matter. The student body at St. Louis University has no need to learn the facts of this unfortunate incident. I am shocked at how quick people are to pick sides basing their opinion purely on hearsay, rumor, and half truths. In a case such as this, where the facts are not going to be publicly known, it is best just to stay out of it.

There was no physical evidence to warrant a criminal charges last spring, by what standard does this University judge

How do YOU know that justice prevails? Are you privy to ALL the facts or are you basing your opinions on pure conjecture and heresay?
slufan13 • Oct 13, 2010 at 10:33 pm
it’s only a one semester suspension everyone. if it were sexual assault, they’d be gone forever.
slustudentx • Oct 13, 2010 at 6:13 pm
Justice is served. It may have taken a while, but SLU did the right thing.
