Bills off to slow start in conference play

Brian Boyd September 30, 2009
Despite only allowing a total of seven goals through ten games this season, good enough for second best in program history, the Saint Louis University Billikens women's soccer team finds its record falling short of their expectations. The Bills hosted Atlantic-10 Conference foe La Salle this past Friday, then traveled to New York to take on St.

Gearing up for A-10 opener

Derrick Neuner September 23, 2009
The 2009 season is looking eerily similar to 2008 for this year's volleyball team. In 2008, the team, then 8-4, stormed into Atlantic 10 Conference play after facing the No. 1 team in the nation, Penn State. The Bills would sweep conference and end up advancing to the second round of the NCAA tournament.

Cue home stand after five away

Bobby Schindler September 23, 2009
The Billikens are finally making their way home, and just in time, ironically, for Homecoming. After five straight road matches against some of the top competition in the country, the Saint Louis University men's soccer team will play in front of the home crowd at Robert R.

Wash. U. tourney finals cancelled on account of rain

Bobby Schindler September 23, 2009
Not a single Billiken won a final match in the Washington University Invitational last weekend, but that wasn't the team's fault. The Billikens made the final in every single event, but they were never given the chance to finish what they started. The final day of play was cancelled due to rain.

Hockey has new coach, new home

Bobby Schindler September 23, 2009
With a new coach comes a new attitude. This year, Saint Louis Univerisity's club hockey team has just that, with new head coach Todd Ewen at the helm. "[Ewen] is teaching his way of playing the game and adding a lot more discipline to our team, but it's really fun to play for a coach with the passion he has," senior Andrew Smith said.

Saint Louis University Athletic Director Chris May announced on Sept. 21 that SLU will be hosting the NCAA 2012 Men's Basketball Midwest Regional finals. The games will be played Friday, March 23, and Sunday, March 25, 2012, at the Edward Jones Dome in downtown St.

X-Country benefits from new coach

David Manke September 16, 2009
For Ryan Bak, running is more than just a job or a sport: it's a passion. Bak's passion for running has earned him one of the most impressive résumés of any Saint Louis coach. Bak, one of three new additions to SLU's cross country and track and field coaching staff did not start running competitively until his junior year of high school.

Billiken battles back

Chris Ackels September 16, 2009
Though the men's soccer team is only five games into the season, several players are already making an impact. St. Louis native, and sophomore transfer Mike Roach is heading that list of impact players. His strong play on the field is only matched by the road he took to get here.

Volleyball prepares for conference

Derrick Neuner September 16, 2009
It's been a rough two weeks for the Saint Louis volleyball team. The Billikens have struggled against ranked teams in two different tournaments, including last weekend's State Farm Classic in Champaign, Ill., where the team went 1-2. With conference play just one week away, the Bills get their final shot to show the volleyball nation why they went undefeated last season in their conference.

Lady Bills split weekend series

Brian Boyd September 16, 2009
The Saint Louis Billikens women's soccer team was not looking past its remaining hurdles before conference play this past weekend at Robert R. Hermann Stadium. On Friday, the eighth anniversary of the Sept. 11th attacks, the Bills dropped a 1-0 decision to the Army Black Knights, bringing their season record to 1-4-1.

Rec Center’s getting its usual, early-year workout

Madeline Roth September 9, 2009
For some students the new school year means a chance for a new start, as many students take this time to make back-to-school resolutions. Perhaps one of the more popular self-promises, however, is to get and stay in shape. For SLU students, the Simon Recreation Center houses a wide array of fitness machines and classes to make fulfilling this goal possible and convenient.

Billikens ranked higher than ever

Derrick Neuner September 9, 2009
The Saint Louis volleyball team brought their "A" game on the road last weekend to Honolulu, Hawaii, but only managed one win out of three matches. That win, against No. 10 California, was enough to advance the Billikens to a No. 16 ranking, the best in program history.
