Missouri-St. Louis claws its way to victory over SLU

Much like Men's Basketball Coach Rick Majerus, Darin Hendrickson found himself coaching players that he did not recruit. Nevertheless, the head baseball coach, in his first year at Saint Louis University, has led the team to an 18-21 record overall-a record that has surpassed last year's 16-win season with 15 games still left in this year's regular season.

What was supposed to be a routine exhibition match to practice for the fall season turned into a more intense game than expected. Junior Brandon Barklage and a Washington University in St. Louis opponent were ejected from the game for fighting. The Saint Louis University men's soccer team tied Wash.

Volleyball places second in 24-team tournament The volleyball team traveled to the Great Lakes Center in Aurora, Ill., Saturday, April 19, where it turned in its second straight top-three finish of the spring volleyball season by placing second. On the road to the championship, the Billikens only lost one match.

With three new coaches, but without a a full roster, the women's club soccer team captured first place in its first tournament of the 2008 spring season. The Billikens played three teams-Bradley, Monmouth College and Notre Dame-on Bradley University's campus in Peoria, Ill.

I'm certain that I'm not alone when I say that I am thrilled that baseball is back. March Madness this year drove me nearly mad. So, the return of America's pastime marks a keen interest in sports, and I tend to watch a lot more ESPN this time of year. I am more than likely alone, however, when I say that it is not the beloved Redbirds that I'm gung ho about, it is the good old Chicago Cubbies.

Coyer wins in the long run

Laura Coyer might seem like an average nursing major at first glance, but this cross-country and track runner has a fierce competitive side that has been pushing her to victory for years. Coyer has been a top runner on the Saint Louis University cross-country team since she joined in 2005.

Volleyball places third at Purdue

The women's volleyball team proved itself a team for all seasons last weekend, when it placed third in its first spring tournament of the year at Purdue University. Although success during these tournaments does not directly affect the team's record, it offers an opportunity to practice skills that will be essential during the official season in the fall.

Softball drops last five of six-game homestand The Saint Louis University softball team went 1-1 against Eastern Illinois University in its most recent game on Wednesday, April 16. In the first match of the doubleheader, the Billikens (16-26-1) pulled out a 6-5 win courtesy of two squeeze bunts in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Game Face can help students land a job in sports world

Game Face, Inc., a job-placement company headquartered in Oregon, is hosting a Sports Career Training Camp running from May 12 to 14.

Soccer set to play five spring exhibition games

After finishing its fall season with 12 wins, the men's soccer team will look to tally five more this spring. The team released its spring schedule April 1, and the Billikens opened their exhibition season Saturday, April 5, with a 2-1 victory over the University of Tulsa at Robert R.

Water polo team attempts to calm its turbulent past

The club water polo team has had its share of problems in the past. Freshmen Ray Kreienkamp and Pete Cosentino, though, revived the water polo team this year with the help of current vice president of the water polo team Charlie Andrus. The duo hopes the team can rejoin the Collegiate Water Polo Association next year.

Dan’s Haul: Kansas victory brings elation

It was all very cloudy from my perspective, but I remember lying face down on the floor with my hands cupped against my face. There were loud noises, and I'm pretty sure my heart flat-lined for a couple of seconds. The situation? Kansas' Mario Chalmers had just sunk the 3-pointer that sent the NCAA national championship game into overtime.
