No sooner had Women's Basketball Coach Shimmy Gray-Miller finished addressing the crowd of Billiken fans than the lights began to shut off after the last contest scheduled in the Bauman-Eberhardt Center. More affectionately referred to around campus as the West Pine Gym, the building opened in 1920 and was the home court for the women's basketball and volleyball teams.

The group includes college students, alumni, faculty and one very special member: the Rev. George Kennard, S.J., who is 88 years old. Heading into its game against Fordham University, the Saint Louis University men's basketball team knew to watch out for Bryant Dunston, a Fordham senior who averages nearly 15 points per game. Dunston, though, matched his game average in the first half alone with 15 points and finished the game with 30.

Club raquetball places in midwest tourney

Three years after its creation, Saint Louis University's club racquetball team has placed third in the PINCHSHOT.com Midwest Intercollegiate Racquetball Championships. This marks the team's first tournament placement in its history. Twelve Midwestern universities participated in the tournament, which was held Feb.

Billiken lacrosse begins 2008 campaign

Last year's lacrosse season ended with a trip to the emergency room for senior captain Jeff Steitz after an opposing player cross-checked him and broke his collar bone, while the team fell to Drodt College in the first round of the playoffs, 10-3. Steitz, who is the president of the club team, has been a captain since his sophomore year and leads the team with the help of the other two captains: senior attacker Ben Zaeger and junior defenseman Mike Van Tiem.

Women's basketball The women's basketball team rebounded from two straight losses to St. Joseph's and La Salle by beating Massachusetts at home on Saturday, 71-65. Sophomore guard Katie Paganelli led the team with 21 points, followed by sophomore Theresa Lisch, who added 19.

The Saint Louis University men's and women's track teams are set to compete in their second Atlantic 10 Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday at the University of Rhode Island campus in Kingston, R.I. "We are excited about our goal of attempting to perform better in this year's meet than last year's," Men's and Women's Track Coach Jon Bell said.

Q&A with former jazz ensemble member Mike Beczkala

When Saint Louis University closed its music department in the late 1980s, the athletic department began looking for musicians, and the Billiken Pep band was formed. Mike Beczkala, a SLU alumnus and former member of the University's jazz ensemble, has directed the band for more than 25 years.
