Women’s basketball falls in season finale

Although freshman Theresa Lisch led the women's basketball team with 25 points against LaSalle University, the Billikens lost the match 75-66 in overtime on Feb. 25. As this game against LaSalle completes the regular season, the Billikens will approach the Atlantic 10 Conference Championships with a 12-16 record overall and 4-10 in A-10 play.

Swimming and diving finishes strong at A-10 Championships

The Saint Louis University men's and women's swimming and diving programs wrapped up their seasons at the Atlantic 10 Championships in Buffalo, N.Y., over the weekend. Despite strong individual performances, especially on the women's side, the Billiken teams finished in the bottom end of the standings.

Softball splits pair of games

Fast-pitch softball is all about the pitcher on the Division I level, and the Bradley tournament last weekend in Pekin, Ill., proved to be a battle of the pitchers. Averaging nearly seven strikeouts in four games, Saint Louis University pitchers Ashley Levan and Lorena Floccari led the Billikens to a 2-2 record at the Dragon's Dome on Feb.

Women split pair during week

The Saint Louis University women's basketball team rounded out a mixed-result week on Wednesday with a close defeat at the hands of Temple, following a decisive victory against Fordham this past Sunday. Last Sunday, the Bauman-Eberhardt Center was rocked by the Bills, who crushed the Fordham Rams by 20 points, 90-70.

Jet fuel scandal leaves NASCAR blushing

Is it really a surprise anymore when you hear on the news that another NASCAR racer was caught trying to cheat? Well, this time, there were five racers who were caught cheating, and it probably could not have come at a worse time for them. A weekend before the season opens, four of the NASCAR teams learned about the consequences of cheating when they were suspended, fined and docked points for "improper aerodynamic adjustments" made to their vehicles.

It's times like these when coach Brad Soderberg longs for the consistency of the 2005-2006 basketball season. Last year, the Billikens alternated wins and losses for what seemed like as long as it took A.C. Green to join the ranks of thousands of college students.

TRACK AND FIELD The Saint Louis University track and field season began on Jan. 12, as both the men's and women's teams got off to strong starts. Last Saturday, Jan. 27, the Bills competed in the Health Alliance Classic hosted by the University of Illinois.

The Saint Louis University swimming and diving teams continued their prowess in the pool last Saturday, as they once again swept a four-team meet. The Billikens' dominating performance was aided by performances that made their marks in the SLU record books.

After decades upon decades of success, St. Louis Blues hockey hit rock bottom last season. The Blues failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in more than two decades. The squad occupied the cellar in the NHL's Western Conference for most of last year.
