The Saint Louis University swim team split matches against Xavier last weekend. The men’s team won 112-93, and the women’s team lost 130-99.
The men’s team won the 200/400 medley relay with a time of 1:44.50. The Bills also won the 200/400 freestyle relay in 1:30.47.
Joe Valentino won the 1000 freestyle in 10:33.20, his best time this year. Luke Muran finished second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:53.95.
Jason Difani won the 50 freestyle in 22.28, Chris Clement finished second in that race in 22.89 and Matt Wills completed the sweep with a time of 23.28.
Difani won the 100 freestyle in 50.88. McArdle finished second in that race in 51.77, his best time this year.
Clement won the 100/200 backstroke in 58.92. Marshall Marietta finished second with a time of 59.47.
Lucas Elmer won the one-meter diving and three-meter diving events.
Difani said, “It was a good meet. Everyone did well. Some did better than we thought.”
Difani liked the Billikens chances on Saturday at the quad meet against Bradley, Butler and IUPUI.
“Everyone’s working hard. As long as everyone stays with it, we’ll do well,” said Difani.
Abbey Robins won the 1000 freestyle in 10:59.76 for the women’s team. This was her best time this year.
Jenny Hurst won the one-meter diving event and Megan Kellon finished second.
Bernie Gartland won the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:02.86, her best time this year. Gartland also finished second in the 200 individual medley in 2:22.29.
Christine Smith finished second in the 100 butterfly in 1:06.95. This was her fastest time this season.
Smith finished second in the 200 freestyle in 2:06.7 and Kristina Kora finished third in 2:07.40.
Robins finished second in the 500 freestyle in 5:20.29.
Suzanne Ibach finished third in the 1000 freestyle in 11:36.45.
Smith said, “We had good swims (in the meet with Xavier). Some swimmers were injured and some missed the meet. That hurt us. We have good chances against Bradley, Butler and IUPUI (this weekend).
Smith likes how the team is performing so far.
“The season is going well. We’re working together as a team and everyone has had good swims.”
