SLU Takes On Hilltoppers
The Saint Louis University baseball team kicks off its season this weekend with a three-game series against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers.
The Bills and the Hilltoppers play a doubleheader that starts at noon on Saturday. The teams take the field at 1 p.m. on Sunday for the final contest.
The Billikens are looking to improve on last year’s 19-39 record.
Next week SLU travels to Tulsa, Okla., for two games against Oral Roberts and a matchup with Northwestern State.

Tennis
Both Teams In Action
Both the men’s and women’s tennis teams are in action this weekend.
The women’s team travels to Phoenix for a meet with Northern Arizona, Colorado State and Weber State. The Billikens are coming off a 9-0 spanking of Eastern Illinois in a dual meet two weeks ago.
The men’s squad hosts Missouri-Kansas City, Oral Roberts and Valparaiso at the Town and Tennis Racket Club in Olivette this weekend. The matches will be the team’s first of the spring season.
The match against UMKC is at 5:30 p.m.; the meet against Oral Roberts is at 5 p.m.; and the contest against Valparaiso takes place at 7:30 p.m.

Soccer
Recruits Sign On
The men’s and women’s soccer teams signed players to National Letters of Intent last Wednesday.
Brad Davis of Chaminade College Preparatory High School in St. Louis signed to play at SLU. Davis guided Chaminade to consecutive Missouri Class 4A Final Four appearances in 1998 and `99. In his senior season as captain, he tallied 34 goals and 17 assists to grab Most Valuable Player honors. In his career, Davis scored 81 goals and added 58 assists while helping Chaminade to a 100-13-13 record.
“Brad is a special player and has the potential to be one of the best players that I’ve had the privilege to coach over the past 20 years,” said Warming. “He possesses that rare combination of being able to set up scoring chances and finish scoring opportunities himself.”
Davis has collected many honors: he has been selected to the United States Under-20 National Team; he is a first-team National Soccer Coaches of America Association All-American; he is the Missouri Player of the Year; and he was tabbed as the Metro Player of the Year by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Women’s coach Tim Champion inked Beth Nabozny and Lindsay Potrafke to letters of intent: . Nabozny, from William Fremd High in Chicago, is a forward/midfielder who scored 15 goals and eight assists in her junior year.
“Beth is a big, strong striker whose ability will have an immediate impact on our program,” said Champion.
Potrafke, from Milford High in Milford, Ohio, is also a forward/midfielder. She notched 10 goals and seven assists as a junior.
“Lindsay is a player that comes in with a great deal of technical ability,” Champion said.
“She has the size and the strength to be competitive at the Division I level.”

Larry Hughes Traded
Former Billiken Larry Hughes was part of a three team trade Wednesday. Hughes and forward Billy Owens are headed to Golden State.
Guards John Starks and Bruce Bowen along with a conditional draft pick go to Chicago and Toni Kukoc moves to Philadelphia.
Hughes had been the subject of trade rumors the majority of the season.Hughes will have a chance for more playing time in Oakland.
