The Saint Louis University volleyball team (11-16 overall, 5-19 Conference USA) continued their downhill run this weekend.
The Billikens lost their final home match to Charlotte Friday night 11-15, 8-15, 15-12, 12-15.
Lone senior Jessica Moss shined in her final home match, posting 14 kills and 15 digs.
Sophomore Ember Knobeloch had an outstanding match, hitting .400 and hammering 10 kills for the Billikens.
Cristal Leonard was strong all around, notching three kills, three digs, three blocks and one assist. Missy Werges also contributed to the Billiken offense with two kills, one dig and one service ace against the 49ers.
Sophomore standout Colleen Hunter notched a double double, hitting 20 kills and digging up 11 balls.
Freshman setter Shannan Swiney had an outstanding night with 47 assists, as well as posting two kills of her own, as well as a dig and a service ace.
The Billiken defense was lead by Brooke Minniear, who came up with 11 digs. Minniear also contributed offensively, adding eight kills in the match.
Defensive specialist Dani Apted had a solid appearance with six digs and two service aces.
Tuesday, the Bills traveled to Notre Dame and were swept by the Irish 15-5, 15-5, 15-10. The Billikens were held to hitting just .140 in the first game but were able to improve to .222 in the second game and .310 in the third game.
“I was encouraged by how we fought back late,” stated coach Marilyn Nolen in a press release. “We were down in the third game, but we played well late in scoring 10 straight points.”
The Bills were lead by Hunter, who managed 20 kills against the Fighting Irish, as well as 15 digs, five blocks and hit an incredible .447.
Knobeloch also had a strong showing, posting 10 kills and four blocks. Werges was also strong offensively, chipping in seven kills.
“Ember and Colleen both played well. We blocked well and with the late momentum; this will set us up to play well this weekend in two important conference matches,” said Nolen.
The Bills will travel to Marquette Friday night to begin their final regular season run and will end the weekend in Chicago at conference rival DePaul.
After this weekend, the Billikens will be gearing up for the C-USA tournament that will be held the following weekend in Charlotte.
