The Saint Louis University men’s golf team posted a third-place finish at the Drury Intercollegiate Tournament, hosted by Southeast Missouri State Monday and Tuesday.
In the season’s first tournament, senior Scott Fann and junior Adam Trower led the team with top-10 finishes, driving the Billikens a to third-place finish in the 13-team field.
Fann and Trower were last season’s top two golfers. Fann took second place amongst 80 golfers Monday and Tuesday.
Fann shot a 73 in the opening round and improved that by shooting par, 72, in round two. Finishing with a three-under-par, 69 in the final round, the senior matched his career-low round set last fall.
With a two-under-par 214 Fann finished just one stoke off the pace of SEMO’s Bryan Johnson, who finished first in individual play.
Evansville finished first in the 13-team field, shooting a 299 in the final round. After rolling past Morehead State by 15 strokes in the final round, UMKC went home with a second place finish.
Last year’s Butler Spring Invitational champion, Trower posted a first round score of 76.
After a 75 in the second round, Trower, like Fann, matched his career best of 70 in the final round. He finished ninth.
After shooting 74 in the first round, sophomore Scott Asbury was not as sharp in the second round, shooting an 82.
Senior Justin Haupt and junior Sean Normile came to his aide posting a 75 and 76, respectively, in the second round. The three players, Asbury, Haupt and Normile each closed with a 79 in the final round.
The Billikens were in good position after the first round. As the tournament went on, they rallied together to post a 297 to close out the tournament. They are scheduled to play again this weekend at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate in Normal, Ill.
