The Saint Louis University cross-country team hosted its only home meet of the season, the Cross Country-Only National Championship, this past Saturday at Forest Park. Teams that have only Cross Country, not track teams, were eligible to participate in the meet. Eight men’s teams and six women’s teams ran in the meet.
The University of Dayton won the men’s race. The Flyers had four of the top seven runners. Freshman Joe Porter led the men for the first time this season. He finished 14th overall with a time of 27:26 for the 8K. Junior Pete Mosher finished 20th overall with a time of 27:45. Brandon Middleton and Mike McCaslin finished third and fourth for the Billikens. SLU’s top eight men all finished within one minute of each other. SLU finished fourth among the eight teams in the competition.
Xavier University won the women’s race. Sophomore Sarah Moberg led SLU’s women’s team for the third straight race with a 16th place finish at 24:37 for the 6K course. Senior Meagan Snedeker was second for the Billikens with a time of 24:55.5 and freshman Emily Zimmerman finished just behind Snedeker with a time of 242:59.6.
“We have a great balance of youth and upperclassmen that has helped everyone achieve their individual goals,” said Middleton. “There is still work to be done, however.”
