Four vans, 30 people and a six-hour drive.
This past weekend the Saint Louis University Ultimate Team (SLUUT) and the Saint Louis University Ladies Ultimate Team (SLULUT) traveled to Fayetteville, Ark., for the 11th annual Harvest Moon frisbee tournament.
With the largest team to go to a tournament this fall, the SLUUTs were poised for improvement. Although SLU played with great spirit and energy, they were unable to consistently play a complete game.
With four games in a row on Saturday against highly experienced teams like Texas, Springfield, Mo. and Rice, SLU mustered one victory, against Memphis.
Kevin Cunningham and Travis Schrage connected for multiple scores.
The SLUUTs’ tournament ended with a loss to Kansas City on Sunday.
The first-ever SLU Ladies Ultimate team also made the trek to Fayetteville. Fourteen women were able to make the drive down south, and all were happy with their final 2-4 record, including wins over teams from Arkansas and Texas.
“More than anything, I expected this to be a learning experience. I am ecstatic with the spirit our team has displayed,” said Team Captain Kate Oland.
“We just tried to take each game one point at a time,” said freshman Laura Uthe.
With their first tournament under their belts, the women are looking to develop their skills and begin preparation for the spring season. The men will be traveling this weekend to Champaign, Ill., for their final tournament of the season.
