It’s that time of year again: time to start thinking about Spring Fever at Saint Louis University.
This year’s Spring Fever, brought to SLU students by the Student Activities Board, will jump onto campus Friday, April 26.
A new location and a new vendor from years past will serve the event with a new atmosphere.
“We’re looking forward to expanding what Spring Fever has been in the past,” said junior Cab Gutting, SAB Spring Fever co-chair.
Spring Fever is a day full of carnival rides, games and fun, and will take place in front of Grand Forest and Marchetti apartments. The event will take up most of Laclede Avenue between Compton and Grand avenues, according to Chris Grabau, SAB advisor.
But the location is not the only new part of this year’s festivities. The Soulard Ale House will serve as the food vendor. In years past, Laclede Street Bar & Grill has played this role in the event.
Soulard Ale House “has a lot to offer,” according to Grabau. “They’re capable of providing more food and more services.”
As in years past there will be a musical performance gracing the ears of Fever-goers.
The mainstage band is yet to be announced, but SAB President Erin Dunn said that she is excited about the big name.
New to the event this year will be a side stage presented by KSLU radio station featuring local and SLU bands.
The winner of the April 8 Battle of the Bands, sponsored by KSLU and the Panhellenic Council, will perform on this stage.
“We’ve got really great acts,” Grabau said. “The quality of music will be consistent throughout the entire event.”
Fireworks, always a student favorite, will be the largest any University event has displayed, Grabau said.
There is also a game show, Dash for Cash, in which students can participate and even win money.
Even with all the new things to come, some aspects of Spring Fever seem to never change.
Student participation is key to the event. “We’ve got a ton of student organizations sponsoring booths,” Dunn said.
Another returning favorite is the carnival rides. SLU students can enjoy the Columbus, the Slide, the Loop-o-Plane, a Funhouse, the Hustler and the Swinger.
In addition to the rides, Grabau encourages attendees of the fair to partake in the rock climbing wall and a sumo-wrestling display.
“We’re really excited about the new location and planning on lots of students’ enjoying the fun,” Gutting said.
