Golf
The Saint Louis University men’s golf team placed fifth at the Ohio Valley Collegiate Tournament at the Doe Valley Golf Course on Oct. 12.
Sophomore Evan Frederick won first with a score of 132. He was 11 strokes ahead of the second-place finisher. Frederick also beat the school record for a two-round tournament. In the first round, Frederick shot 65; and managed a 67 on the second day.
Freshman John Campbell placed 20th, shooting 76-78 for the two-round scores. David Perritt finished with a 75-80.
Freshman Rob Legg finished 23rd with rounds of 82 and 80. Mike Higgason placed 25th, shooting an 83-81.
Cross country
The men’s cross country team came in seventh at the Saluki Invitational on Saturday in Carbondale, Ill. The best Billiken time went to Pat Henchy at 29:09, placing him 25th overall.
Mike McCaslin recorded a time of 27:28 for SLU, placing him in 33rd place.
Joe Porter finished 34th with a time of 27:30. Mike Isaac finished 36th with a time of 27:32.
At the event, the women’s cross country team placed sixth.
Aimee Walther was the top runner for the Bills, finishing 15th with a time of 19:15. Janelle Decker placed 19th with a time of 19:39.
Megan Irwin placed 26th for the Bills with a time of 19:50.
Field Hockey
The field hockey team dropped a 2-0 decision against Miami (Ohio) Sunday afternoon.
The team will travel to the West Coast for a weekend NorPac series against Pacific and Cal before returning home Wednesday afternoon for their final home game against Lindenwood.
Crew Club
The Crew Club turned in a solid performance at the Head of the Rock Regatta in Rockford, Ill., this weekend in the Open Mixed 8 and the Open Mixed 4 race.
In the eight-rower event, the team of Ruth Wimsatt, Megan Beaty, Jessica Lange, Samantha Watts, Mike Taylor, Phil Gilbertson, Faris Roscher, Tom Hare and coxswain Alice Chiu edged past the 15 other teams in the water by a quarter of a second.
Lange, Chiu, Hare, Gilbertson and coxswain Beaty manned the four-person boat and took gold in the event.
The rowers will participate in the St. Louis Classic at Creve Coeur Lake on Oct. 27.
The team will face local rivals University of Missouri and Washington University at the weekend event.
