Hockey finishes eighth in nationals
The Saint Louis University club hockey team took eighth place in the American Collegiate Hockey League National Tournament this weekend in Athens, Ohio. The No. 12 seed Billikens lost in the first round to No. 1 University of Illinois, won against No. 8 Drexler in overtime, but lost to Eastern Michigan in the seventh place consolation round.
Chris Kellogg, John Malaney, Tim Niedbalski and Jordan Janes each scored one goal against the Illini.
Against Drexler, Kellogg and Janes had a solid showing, as did goaltender Geoff Schuessler. Kellogg scored two goals in the game, and Janes netted a goal in the final 13 seconds of the third period to send the Bills into overtime. The Billikens ended the game 12 minutes into the period when Janes hit Eric Herbst with a pass on the left side on a breakaway, who one-touched it into the net. Kelsey Johnston and Jon Zimmer each added a goal.
In the consolation round, despite four goals from Janes, two from Adam Kulp and one from Jason Goode, the Billikens lost in overtime to Eastern Michigan. The Bills lagged on defense and gave up a one goal lead in the last few minutes of the third period.
Eastern Michigan tied the game, forcing an overtime period, where they finished off the game with a goal during their second shift on the ice.
Golf takes fifth place in tennessee
The men’s golf team finished in fifth place in the Tri-State Classic hosted by UT-Martin this weekend. Sophomore Evan Frederick took third place overall, while freshman David Perritt rounded out the top finishers in 10th place.
SLU finished with a combined score of 890 in the extremely close tournament, just 11 strokes behind the winner, Murray State.
Softball slated to open in houston
After the cancellation of the first 15 games of the season due to inclement weather, the softball team is slated to open the season with Conference-USA foe Houston in Texas.
