With soccer season getting off to a great start, one Saint Louis
University player in particular to watch this season is junior
forward Jamie Perry. Perry scored twice in the season opener
against Arkansas State and looks to score more as the season
continues.
“I haven’t set any personal goals for this season, but I am
hoping that we win the conference tournament and make it to the
NCAA tournament,” said Perry. “I have been here two years and we
haven’t won it [the Conference USA tournament] yet.”
Perry’s presence greatly impacts the play on the field. “I
target back for the midfield and score goals. I also create chances
for others to score,” Perry said.
Last season, she was named to the first-team All-Conference and
second-team NSCAA All-Region. She led the team with 29 points and
scored 13 goals, both of which set school records.
Perry ranked third in C-USA in points and second in goals, and
after only just two seasons ranks third in school history with 55
career points and second in program history with 24 career
goals
Perry, a native to St. Louis, was initially not too keen on
staying in the city for college.
“When I was first choosing schools I wasn’t considering SLU,”
Perry said.
Despite wanting to get out of the city, she changed her mind and
now enjoys being in St. Louis.
“It’s close to home, and I am really close to my family; I get
to see them almost whenever I want,” Perry said. “They are also
able to come to all of the home games.”
around the soccer community where she grew up.
“The soccer community in St. Louis is also really close. I play
with four other girls from the team in a club team,” Perry
said.
With only two years at SLU under her belt, she already has a few
favorite games and memories.
“The first game I ever played at SLU was great. It was under the
lights with all the fans. It was a great experience,” Perry said.
“Another good game was when we beat Cincinnati 2-1 on their own
turf.”
With the season just starting, Perry is looking forward to a few
games this year.
“Indiana should be a good one. We have a good rivalry with
them,” said Perry. “Also, Marquette and Charlotte because Charlotte
was undefeated last year; and Marquette because they knocked us out
of the conference tournament in double overtime on a penalty
kick.”
Perry’s outlook for the season is a good one.
“I am really excited about this season. We have awesome
freshmen, and if we play like we should then we will have a great
season,” Perry said.
Perry still has one more season to play, but she has no further
plans to play professionally.
“If the opportunity arose, I would consider it,” she said.
Perry is majoring in communication and, as a student athlete,
she knows how to manage her time well.
“The busier my schedule is, the more I get done. We miss a few
classes when we travel, but the professors are understanding about
it,” Perry said.
The Bills play Friday at 7:30 p.m. against Indiana. They are
hosting their annual Toys for Tots Tournament with play starting at
5:00 p.m. when Army takes on Air Force.
