The Saint Louis University cross country team capped finale of
the season at the Conference USA Championship in Tampa last weekend
with an 11th place finish by the men and a 13th place finish by the
women.
The team was led by seniors in both the men’s and the women’s
races, with Brandon Middleton finishing first in the Billiken
lineup for the 8-kilometer race with a time of 26:28.60, which was
good enough for 32nd place overall.
In the women’s 6-kilometer run, Janelle Decker turned in SLU’s
top time of 23:51.30 and finished in 54th place out of packed field
of 96 runners.
Behind Middleton, junior Joe Porter crossed the finish line in
26:38.60, landing him only seven places behind Middleton, not a bad
showing for Porter.
Paul Lemon clocked a solid 26:51.60 in his freshman
championship, while Jason Genta finished with a 27:210.10 in his
debut league championship race.
Jimmy Holmes rounded out the top five Billiken runners with his
28:29.90 run.
Emily Zimmerman finished at the heels of Decker with a 24:01.00
and grabbed 59th place.
Sarah Moberg finished the race in 24:10.20, just ahead of her
teammate Beth Shearman, who clocked a 24:38.00 at the event. Jamie
Branham grabbed the final top-five position for SLU with her strong
time of 24:58.80.
The men’s team combined for 244 points and the women’s team
chalked up 337 points at the meet. Marquette was the big finisher
of the day, claiming both the men’s and women’s titles with 43
points in each meet.
