Men's Soccer
National powerhouses met in Bloomington, Ind., for a spring soccer match, as two-time defending national champion, Indiana University, defeated Saint Louis University by a score of 2-0.
The Hoosiers struck first and stuck quickly. Just after the three-minute mark, sophomore forward Jacob Peterson knocked in a header from junior Brian Plotkin, sneaking the goal past Pat Disbennett. This accounted for the only scoring of the first half.
Indiana caught the Bills off-guard again early in the second half. Hooiser freshman Kevin Noschang scored off of SLU sophomore keeper David Greathouse, who replaced Disbennett.
The game marked SLU's first spring contest against a Division I opponent, and their first major match without Tim Ward and Will John, who left for the MLS.
John supplied much of the firepower for the Billikens on the offensive side of the pitch for the past two years, scoring 10 goals in the fall of 2004.
In his absence, sophomore midfielder Jon DiRaimondo attempted to step up. He led SLU with four shots for the game and a near score off of a dead-ball kick late in the second half.
The Bills play the first of two remaining spring contests at home on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Robert R. Hermann stadium against Drake. They conclude next Thursday at home, against Southwest Missouri State.
