Tom Burroughs, Ph.D., director of Saint Louis University Center for Outcomes Research, was named to the list of “40 Under 40” in the St. Louis Business Journal.
“I am very honored and surprised to be a part of this list,” Burroughs said. “Those on the list are a very neat group of people, as well as great for SLUCOR.”
SLUCOR is an academic division of the School of Medicine. It is primarily focused in research rather than working with physicians. Currently, SLUCOR is conducting a study about diabetics with the School of Medicine and the School of Public Health. SLUCOR also works with the state of Missouri’s governor’s office to develop an education program for children who need to control their weight and avoid the onset of diabetes.
“It’s a very exciting time,” Burroughs said.0 “Our work with diabetes is in understanding why it’s on the rise.”
Burroughs attended Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville for his undergraduate degree, majoring in psychology and math. He conducted his graduate work at Washington University in St. Louis, where he received his doctorate in psychology.
“It’s been very interesting,” Burroughs said, “since I never really liked math but ended up majoring in it.”
The award ceremony for “40 Under 40” will be held Feb. 8 at the Windows off Washington.
