WOMEN’S TENNIS
The Saint Louis University women’s tennis team earned a seventh seed in the Atlantic 10 Conference tournament. The team put together a 1-2 record against conference foes, finishing the season with a 12-13 record.
Earlier this week, the Bills lost an opportunity to finish above .500 for the season by dropping their final two regular-season matches.
Riding a five-match winning streak, SLU could not best their opponents from Arkansas State, falling 1-7. The winning streak was the longest of the season for the Bills.
Senior Katerina Lozanova won both of her matches, but her singles win, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3, was the only point the team garnered. Lozanova also teamed with junior Tara Grant for the only doubles win of the afternoon, capturing an 8-4 decision.
SLU wrapped up the regular season against the No. 43 Tulsa Golden Hurricane. The Bills fell 7-0, despite putting up strong resistance at several positions.
On Friday morning, the team will take on Dayton in the opening round of the A-10 tournament. The Flyers are the only team that SLU beat in conference this season.
BASKETBALL COMMITMENTS
Although it’s spring time, the recruitment trail of basketball is up and running. Colleges all around the nation have until May 16 to get their final recruits for next year.
That being said, let’s take a look at Saint Louis University’s upcoming freshman basketball stars who committed to SLU this month:
Marcus Relphorde
This 6’7″ small forward from Chicago brings athleticism and offensive capability. While Relphorde plays the small forward position, he has the ability to play four positions and can cause numerous match-up problems for the other team.
He played high school basketball at American Christian School after transferring out of Homewood-Flossmoor High School, the same school that future NBA star Julian Wright attended. Last year, he averaged 13 points per game while grabbing six rebounds and passing out 3.5 assists.
Anthony Mitchell
This 6’4″ shooting guard from East St. Louis can really shoot the ball. Mitchell played high school basketball at East St. Louis High School, where he averaged 14 points and 11 rebounds per game last year. Mitchell led his high school team to the top of its conference with a 12-2 record and a 23-5 mark overall.
ST. LOUIS MARATHON
Saint Louis University was proud when former SLU soccer player and SLU alum Jamie Pusateri finished second at this year’s St. Louis Marathon.
She finished the race in three hours, four minutes and 18 seconds. This year’s winner on the women’s side was Christine Ensign, with a time of 2:52:38. Karl Gilpin finished first overall with a time of 2:28:59.
Both Gilpin and Ensign are current residents of Missouri. Each were crowned Missouri marathon champions and given $1,000 as an award. The marathon itself had about 2,200 runners who ran the 26.2-mile course.
