A new generation of fledgling artists will display their work to the Saint Louis University community beginning today. A group of 51 student artists have been selected by the art faculty to display 90 pieces of work in an annual student art show that has a 30-year history at SLU.
The show will open with a reception tonight in Boileau Hall from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., complete with complementary refreshments. Admission is free and the show will run through early May.
Sharron Pollack, a faculty member in the fine and performing arts department, says that the body of work to be shown was culled from 160 submissions. She said that the art show gives students a chance to share their art with others: “This show allows students to see their work out of the studio and hung professionally on gallery walls. ?Our students get the opportunity to experience the whole artistic process-from art-making to preparing their work for exhibition.”
Participating students do not receive awards or monetary rewards for their work, but Pollack encouraged student groups, academic departments and the administration to recognize the breadth of artistic talent on campus through the distribution of merit-based awards.
