This Monday, the Saint Louis University men’s basketball team will hold a meet and greet to give fans a chance to meet the new head coach Rick Majerus and the players. The event will be held in the Ballroom at the Busch Student Center from 7 to 10 p.m.
The meet and greet is being hosted by Saint Louis University Athletic Department, the Alumni Relations Department and Blue Crew.
“Coach Majerus had contacted me about a chance to connect with the fans of Billiken basketball before the new season starts,” Associate Athletic Director Mark Wright said. “The coach only has a limited amount of time, so we decided to create this event so Majerus can meet those who are interested in his team.”
Prior to the doors opening, free bratwursts, hot dogs, lemonade and soda in a tailgating tent outside the BSC.
The event will allow alumni, donors and students to take a virtual tour of the Chaifetz Arena. The tour will provide visitors a visual perspective of the various seating arrangements of the new arena. Chaifetz opens as a sporting facility in April.
Players at SLU present at the event will be signing autographs for fans; attendees will also be able to register to win various Billiken prizes. The night will end with a Q&A session with Majerus.
The idea of the event was inspired by a collaboration of the Athletic Department and Alumni Relations.
Several groups have been invited to the meet and greet. Wright’s office e-mailed all alumni in the St. Louis area. Also, all donors and ticket holders were also invited.
“Along with the donors, we invited the Blue Crew and hope students will come, as well,” Wright said. “We really don’t know what to expect. There may be a hundred people; there may be more than a thousand. But I know it will be fun no matter what.”
The Billiken men are looking to improve on last season’s 20-13 overall record and 8-8 record in Atlantic 10 Conference play.
This year, the team will host 17 games at the Scottrade Center in downtown St. Louis. The Billikens will not begin play at the new Chaifetz Arena until next season.
