Men’s soccer
With their 3-0 victory over the Knightros of Central Florida Sept. 29, in front of an audience of 5,758, the Billikens are now on a four-game winning streak.
Calum Angus notched SLU’s first goal with a header off a Brandon Barklage cross in the minute 39. Freshman Beau Bellomy and junior Dado Hamzagic also scored goals toward the end of the game to give the Billikens the 3-0 advantage.
Defensively, sophomore keeper Ross Kaufman made three saves for his third shutout of the season.
“I was pleased with our performance, especially given how many key players were out of the lineup,” head coach Dan Donigan said. “That was probably the most lineup changes we’ve ever made and played players in positions they haven’t even trained in.”
The Billikens carried the play the entire evening and tied the Hermann Stadium record with 17 corner kicks.
The Bills will look to continue their 4-0 streak and face the final test of their non-conference schedule on Saturday when they host Buffalo.
The Buffalo Bulls enter Saturday’s match 7-3-1 on the season after knocking off Bowling Green and Duquesne last weekend. Additionally, the Bulls have won four games this season in overtime.
Volleyball
After defeating the Panthers of Northern Iowa Sept. 25, the Saint Louis University women’s volleyball team returns to action against league-rival Rhode Island this weekend.
The Billikens will host both Rhode Island and Fordham at the Bauman-Eberhardt Center, and they will attempt to remain unbeaten on their home court.
With their 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Nothern Iowa, the Billikens snapped a three-game losing streak. The victory, which was the first over UNI in the all-time series, also helped SLU improve to 4-0 at home this season.
Now SLU will look to improve their A-10 record with two wins this weekend.
Rhode Island will look to end a four-game losing streak heading into the match-up, while Fordham hopes to knock off SLU in order to end a three-game losing streak of its own.
SLU leads 3-1 all-time against the Rams of UNI and boasts 3-0 all-time against Fordham.
Leading SLU into this weekend is senior middle blocker Sutton Lasater, who joined the 1,000-kill club with her 23 kills against UNI, and outside hitter Bridget Fonke, who has been named to three All-Tournament teams this season.
