EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT: Vote Alex Joyce
Howard made a wise decision in choosing Alex Joyce to take over her current SGA position. Joyce’s level-headedness and practical manner serve as a balance to Howard’s myriad of ideas. His friendly approach and interest in what people have to say will garner him respect.
Howard’s term as executive vice president has focused on leadership, and she said that Joyce will focus on membership–which is exactly what SGA needs. As senators chat on Gmail on their laptops and gossip during Senate, Joyce will have a challenge in recruiting dedicated students both for Senate and other student organizations, especially in light of the apathy problem on which all candidates harp. Though Joyce comes across as welcoming, he should take a page from Howard’s work and formulate ideas of his own. His proposal to improve the spring CSO fair is a fine concept, yet he should continue to brainstorm with his presidential candidate.
Joyce said that he will get students involved on campus so that their time at SLU is rewarding. Our hope is that he also reaches out to the students who only attend class, go to work and head home; all are a part of the SLU community.
