Field hockey players earn honors
Fourteen players from the Saint Louis University Field Hockey team proved that they can get the job done on the playing field and in the classroom. As a team, the Billikens joined five other Atlantic 10 teams in earning the National Field Hockey Coaches Association’s Division I National Academic Team Award, with a team GPA of at least 3.0. Only six schools had more than the 14 selections by the Billikens.
The 14 Billikens recognized by the NFHCA, who all had at least a 3.3 GPA, include seniors Catherine Donovan and Ashlea Hibshman; juniors Cathi Brownell, Christine Frampus, Mary Henry, Meghan Hill, Emily Kassab and Jacklyn McGranahan; sophomore Eva Luck and freshmen Stephanie Ertzberger, Natalie Gamez, Meghan Orbe, Kelsey Shultz and Kelsey Traynor.
No. 61 Wichita State downs Bills, 6-1
Nationally-ranked Wichita State University nearly swept the SLU women’s tennis team, 6-1, on Saturday, March 29. Freshman Caitlin McKenna earned the Billlikens’ sole point in the match with a come-from-behind win, 1-6, 6-3, 10-3, over WSU’s Ferreira at No. 6 singles. The team fell to a 9-9 record overall after the loss.
Softball drops five consecutive games
The softball team managed five hits in its two losses, 5-0 and 5-2, to Southern Illinois on Wednesday, April 2. With the two non-conference losses, the Bills drop their season-high fifth consecutive game. The Billikens failed to produce a consistent offensive threat as they had just three hits in the game and stranded five runners. Rachel O’Connell and Allison Hopke also added singles for SLU.
With the loss, the team falls to 12-20-1 overall.
Women’s basketball hosts banquet

Track and field returns to Wash. U
The track and field team heads back to Washington University in St. Louis today to compete in the Washington University Select. The bulk of the action will take place on Saturday, April 5. Last week, the Billikens opened their outdoor campaign at the WU Invitational and posted 15 school records.
Soccer announces spring campaign
Men’s Soccer Coach Dan Donigan announced today that the Billikens will play five matches during their spring exhibition season, all of which will take place at Robert R. Hermann Stadium on the SLU campus.
The Billikens host UMKC on April 19, at 1 p.m., followed by a round-robin with Jefferson County CC and Wash. U. on the evening of April 23.
The spring season concludes on April 26, when the Billikens host Bradley at Hermann Stadium. Last season, the Braves advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals.
