Volleyball places second in 24-team tournament
The volleyball team traveled to the Great Lakes Center in Aurora, Ill., Saturday, April 19, where it turned in its second straight top-three finish of the spring volleyball season by placing second.
On the road to the championship, the Billikens only lost one match. They fell in the final to Georgia Tech in a 30-point championship game. Head Coach Anne Kordes said the team played “awesome,” throughout the weekend.
“I was impressed with our offensive efficiency and passing,” Kordes said in a press release. “It was a total team effort. We are well-balanced with talent at every position. It makes it hard for teams to stop us.
“I was particularly impressed with [sophomore] Bridget Fonke and her leadership. [Fonke] hurt her ankle last weekend, but she lit it up all day, especially at the end. [Junior] Lauren Christman also had a great tournament.”
