The SLU 24 Hour Library Club is pushing for the Pius XII Memorial Library to run 24 hours Dec. 9-16, the week of finals.
Last night during the Student Government Association meeting, the SGA Library Task Force presented its report on making the Library 24 hours. The library currently runs from 7:30 a.m.-2 a.m.
“For SLU to remain and advance as a premier academic institution, SLU must have a 24-hour library available to students,” said Sen. Adnan Hussain, Library Task Force Chair.
For the library to be open during finals week, an $8,000 card-reading machine will be needed. This would be a trial run to see if the library can run permanently on a 24-hour basis.
In order for the library to continue running on a 24-hour schedule, an annual estimate of $26,314 would be needed to pay for additional staff.
The initiative has also gone interactive with the website slu24hourlibrary.org and a Facebook group called SLU 24 Hour Library Supporters with more than 750 members.
Cari Wickliffe, director of Student Financial Services, also presented on new services the Financial Services office will provide.
“Our main goal is a simplification of what we do, we are focusing on how can we simplify our services for students,” said Wickliffe.
The Financial Services website has been revamped with a cost calculator for students.
The Upper Class Scholarship recipients were announced during the meeting.
This $1,000 scholarship was awarded to five upperclassmen out of 40 applicants: seniors Patrick Turner, Emily Karstens, Andrea Heyse and juniors Sarah Pingel and Sonal Oza.
