On Dec. 15, the next section of Highway 40 (Interstate 64) will close from Interstate 170 to Kingshighway Blvd. This five-mile section will be closed for construction until Dec. 31, 2009. This will impact many faculty and students’ commute to campus.
“The closing is going to effect me greatly as a commuter student,” said freshman Amy Pearson. “I will be unable to get to the University on my normal route. I have to figure out what are the best alternate routes to get to the University and reschedule when I leave to get to class on time.”
Dec. 15 also marks the date that I-64 will be reopening from Ballas Road to I-170, the section of the highway that has been closed since January.
The $535 million reconstruction project covers 10.5 miles of highway and will include upgrade all the pavement, bridges and interchanges, widening shoulders for safety and adding an interstate to interstate connection between I-64 and I-170.
