The Saint Louis University indoor track and field team continued its string of good performances this past weekend with several first-place finishes and 10 school records at the EIU Mega Meet.
The women earned five first-place finishes and four school records, two of which were recorded by sophomore Tiffany Alexander in the 60-meter dash and 60-meter hurdles.
“This is the best meet I’ve had all year, and I’m confident about future performances,” Alexander said.
Senior Mary Moloney was also among the record-breakers with a 3,000 meter time that beat the previous school record by more than seven seconds with a first-place time of 10:18.22.
Senior Anna Alexandrov beat her previous school record in the weight throw.
The women also had several other first-place finishers at the meet: freshman Caitlin McCarthy in the 600-meters; junior Laura Peabody in the 5,000 meters; sophomore Sara Fraley in the 800-meters; and the distance medley relay team of Fraley, freshmen Hilary Orf and Mallory Dugger, and senior Lauren Verzal placed first as well.
The men also broke six school records.
Junior David Whelan broke the school-record in the 60-meter dash in a preliminary heat.
Senior Austin Critchlow finished third in the 800-meters while breaking a school record. Sophomore Kyle Ross posted a school-record time in the 1,000-meters, and sophomore Justin Kwasa broke the school-record in the weight throw.
The Billikens also had two relay teams give school-record performances: the 4×400 relay and the distance medley relay.
“[The EIU Mega Meet] will serve as the most accurate predictor of where we may end up in the conference meet,” Head Coach Jon Bell said.
