The Saint Louis University Billikens went into overtime for the third consecutive time on the road and dropped a crucial game to the Colonials of George Washington University last night, Wednesday, Jan. 27, 62-67. The loss moves the Billikens to 12-7 overall and 3-2 in Atlantic 10 play.
Coming into Wednesday’s game against the Colonials, the Billikens were fourth in conference standings, despite the fact that they were chosen to finish in the bottom tiers of the conference, according to pre-season polls. The loss puts an uncertainty on how the team will perform at Richmond on Jan. 30.
What is certain is the effect freshman Cody Ellis has had on the court for the Billikens since his arrival in St. Louis. The Australian led all players with 20 points. SLU fell apart late in the second half, giving up a 13-point lead with 9 minutes left in the game.
It was a poor shooting night for both sides as the Bills managed 41.8 percent from the field, compared to an abysmal 39.3 percent from George Washington. The difference, once again, was in free throws; SLU shot just 50 percent from the line while the Colonials hit 17 of 23 to put the Billikens away.
