Saint Louis University men’s basketball associate head coach Porter Moser has accepted the head coaching position at the University of Loyola-Chicago, confirmed by members of the Billikens. A formal announcement is expected from both SLU and Loyola within the next 48 hours. Porter is expected to be announced as the new head coach for Loyola on Wednesday, April 6.
The hiring was first reported by the Chicago Tribune on Saturday.
Moser came to SLU to coach under head coach Rick Majerus shortly after Majerus’ hiring in 2007. Formally a head coach at Illinois State from 2003-2007, Moser coached the Redbirds to 51-67 overall, 22-50 in the Missouri Valley and had one winning season.
At SLU, he was the main recruiter for Majerus and was tasked with scheduling for the team. He was directly responsible for major signings like Mike McCall and Kwamain Mitchell. Moser was known for his pipeline to the Chicago area, an attribute that will be missed by the Billikens.
The University News is currently working on contacting Majerus, Moser and other members of the SLU basketball community. Stay tuned for more information here and in our print edition on Thursday, April 7.
