Last night, several students awoke to the sound of gun shots on Laclede Avenue as a Department of Public Safety and Security Services officer fired three shots at a suspicious vehicle fleeing the area out of a SLU parking lot at 2:39 a.m.
“The suspects are still at large, and the investigation is being handled by the St. Louis Police Department,” said Assistant Director of Field Operations for DPSSS, Kenneth Hornak , “No one has been taken into custody yet.”
The following is a report from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department:
“A SLU Security Officer stated he was traveling west on the 3700 block of Laclede Avenue when he observed a navy blue Chevy Trailblazer parked in the rear parking lot of the 3700 block of Laclede Avenue facing south. The Security Officer backed his vehicle up and pulled in through the entrance of the parking lot toward the vehicle. He then got out of his vehicle to investigate the occupants when he observed a black male inside the passenger seat and another black male run from in between two vehicles just right of the Chevy Trailblazer.
The suspects then drove toward the Security Officer forcing him to back up in the middle of the street just south of the above location. The suspect then drove the vehicle through the entrance out of the parking lot in the direction of the Security Officer going west on Laclede. The Security Officer, in fear that the vehicle would strike him, fired three shots from his service revolver at the suspect’s vehicle striking the rear window shattering it completely. The suspect’s vehicle then drove away at a high rate of speed east on Laclede Avenue from the above location out of sight. No suspects have been located.”

So in this story, it says the DPS officer was “in fear that the vehicle was going to hit him” and he fired 3 shots, yet somehow only the rear window was broken. Anyone else see a problem with this story? If the car is driving toward him, how did he manage to break only the rear window with his shots? Can I borrow some of this physics magic on my next exam please?
