1. After weeks of speculation and reports from multiple sources, Saint Louis Athletics and Rick Majerus officially announced his coaching staff for the upcoming 2012-2013 men’s basketball season. The coaching changes come after the departure of former Assistant Coach Chris Harriman and former Director of Basketball Operations Tony Young. Harriman left to become an assistant coach at Nebraska and Young left to become the coach at East St. Louis High School. Tanner Bronson was promoted from senior graduate assistant to assistant coach, Mike Lepore joins from Wake Forest as the Director of Basketball Operations, and Danny Brown, a former Billiken basketball player (2004-2008), joins as a senior graduate assistant. The new coaching staff is as follows:
Head Coach: Rick Majerus
Associate Head Coach: Jim Whitesell
Assistant Coaches: Jim Crews and Tanner Bronson
Senior Graduate Manager: Danny Brown
2. The women’s basketball completed their staff for the upcoming 2012-2013 season as well. Head Coach Lisa Stone will be entering her first season at SLU. Here is the staff for the women’s basketball team;
Head Coach: Lisa Stone
Associate Head Coach: Barb Smith
Assistant Coaches: Amy Stephens and Brian “Lou” DiFeo
Director of Operations and Video Coordinator: Brittney Stephens
3. Some of SLU’s baseball players are playing summer league baseball. Players are participating in the Coastal Plain League, Perfect Game League, Texas Collegiate League, Horizon West League and Walter Johnson League
4. Brian Conklin, former Billikens forward participated in a workout with the Denver Nuggets. Conklin reported the news on his Twitter feed and seemed happy after the workout. “Nuggets workout great experience just reminding me of life goals!” Conklin said on his personal Twitter feed.
5. Andy Katz of ESPN wrote a blog about Saint Louis men’s basketball being “the team to beat in the A-10.” Katz also revealed in the blog that SLU will be playing Texas A&M in the semifinals of the CBE Classic and could potentially play Kansas if the Billikens beat A & M.
