On Sept. 17, 2025, Saint Louis University officially announced a change in leadership for its 2026 men’s baseball season, replacing 18-year veteran Darin Hendrickson with Miles Miller as program head coach.
In the initial announcement, SLU director of athletics Chris May lauded Miller and his coaching ability.
“Miles is extremely prepared and qualified to lead our program, and we are confident in his ability to guide our student-athletes as they strive to meet our strategic objectives. We thank Darin for his contributions to the university and baseball program,” May said in the announcement.In addition to naming a new head coach, SLU added 16 transfers to its roster at the start of the season in an effort to improve in both the regular season record and conference play.
The Billikens opened the season with eight consecutive losses before finally breaking into the win column against Southern Indiana and Bellarmine, including an 8-0 shutout victory.
Over three days, the Billikens recorded three straight wins in a series against Bradley University. Senior Ian Blazier, who has 12 RBI’s as of April 18, had two hits and added another RBIa run scored in the third game of the series.
Conference play began on March 13 against Dayton. Sophomore Hank Gomric and graduate student Matthew Arnold each scored two runs in the Billikens’ 8-3 win.
SLU lost series against both George Mason and Saint Joseph’s, but rebounded with two wins against George Washington, including a game in which senior pitcher Ben Cherico threw his first career complete game, pitching all nine innings and allowing just two hits.Redshirt sophomore and recent transfer Joey Canzoni scored a solo home run to solidify the win for the Billikens.
Following a dominant performance against George Washington, Cherico was named Atlantic 10 pitcher of the week.
The Billikens are currently 15-24 overall and 6-11 in conference play, with 16 games upcoming to improve their standings, including matchups against Virginia Commonwealth University and Richmond.
