Basketball playoffs need to be addressed

For those of you who have followed the National Basketball Association for the past couple of seasons, you have probably seen their "Where Amazing Happens" ad campaign for the playoffs. They're actually pretty hard to miss, since they are shown at literally every single commercial break.

Bats quieted in consecutive losses

The Saint Louis University softball team's bats went cold last night as the team suffered 7-1 and 5-0 defeats at the hands of Southern Illinois at Carbondale. "We were really sluggish," sophomore Caitlin Trevillyan said. Both teams started slow with neither team scoring until the fourth inning.

Women’s team achieves best finish

The Saint Louis University women's tennis team capped off a strong finish to the season with a come-from-behind victory over the No. 5 University of Massachusetts this past Sunday, April 19. The victory claimed a fifth place finish in the Atlantic 10 conference tournament for the Billikens - making it their best finish in four years of A-10 membership.

Teams heat up before conference

Both the men's and women's tennis teams hope that their strong regular season finishes will fuel deep runs into their respective conference tournaments. Play begins Friday as the women head to Pittsburgh for the Atlantic 10 Tournament. After getting off to a tough start this season, the women's team has won six of their last seven matches and finished the season at 10-10.

Prospect of marathon exciting, but dreaded

Starting at 7 a.m. this Sunday, thousands of runners will dominate the streets of St. Louis for the city's annual marathon. More than 20,000 people are anticipated to participate this year in what is becoming one of the largest growing races in the United States.

After a record-breaking performance on Tuesday, the Saint Louis University softball team followed up their two victories with two tough home losses yesterday. The softball team played a doubleheader Tuesday against Eastern Illinois, winning the first game 11-10 in extra innings.

Spring tournaments help determine lineups

Head Volleyball Coach Anne Kordes has her team just about where she wants it. After two months of practice and tournament play, the Saint Louis Billikens will wrap up off-season competition in two weeks at the Chaifetz Pavilion. The Bills (29-5 in 2008), who earned the 13th overall seed in the 2008 NCAA Tournament, finished one of the best seasons in program history.

It was a historic, if disappointing, night for Saint Louis last night. The Billikens got pounded last night by the Missouri Tigers 19-6 at Busch Stadium. It was the first time the stadium, home to Major League Baseball's St. Louis Cardinals, has hosted a D-1 baseball game.

With Major League Baseball's Opening Day coming up just around the corner, I decided that now would be the perfect time to take a gander at why I love baseball season so much. There are those pessimists out there who boldly predict that this season will be depressing for the casual baseball fan because of economic trouble; however, regardless of the state of the economy, magic will surely fill the air once the first pitch is thrown out.

Heet breaks RBI record; Bills drop doubleheader

During last weekend's doubleheader against Dayton, senior Rachel Heet became Saint Louis University's all-time leader in runs batted in. "It's amazing [for Heet]. It's a milestone for her and for the program because it means we're a force to be reckoned with in the Atlantic 10," said sophomore Caitlin Trevillyan.
