Leg injury sets back Bills’ top distance runner

Andrew Bush April 1, 2009
Compartment syndrome is a nuisance no matter who you are. It hurts-blood flow is significantly restricted in the affected area with sometimes damaging repercussions, including potential nerve damage. But it especially hurts if you happen to have a running scholarship at Saint Louis University and long term aspirations of competing at the Olympic Trials.

Billikens battle at Busch

Derrick Neuner April 1, 2009
It was a historic, if disappointing, night for Saint Louis last night. The Billikens got pounded last night by the Missouri Tigers 19-6 at Busch Stadium. It was the first time the stadium, home to Major League Baseball's St. Louis Cardinals, has hosted a D-1 baseball game.

Siblings say goodbye to SLU

Derrick Neuner March 25, 2009
When Coach Rick Majerus and Coach Shimmy Gray-Miller gather their basketball teams together next fall, something will be missing. It won't be the fans or the new arena or the Billiken; they'll all be there eager for tip-off and a new season. Each coach will be missing a member of the First Family of Billiken basketball: the Lisches.

Few upsets mean great matchups

Joe George March 25, 2009
At this point in NCAA Tournament, people might have a few questions rattling around in their brains. More than a few, actually. They may be wondering what on earth happened to their beautiful brackets. They also may be wondering how CBS basketball commentator Gus Johnson has yet to literally explode with excitement.

Bills to take on more prestigious competition this year

Andrew Bush March 25, 2009
Out of all the people who have graduated from Saint Louis University, only four can say they have participated in the track and field program since its conception four years ago: Matt Alexander, Austin Critchlow, Brian Poludniak and Lauren Verzal. "It's a special moment.

Questions surround next season

Joe George March 25, 2009
After an 18-14 campaign and the departure of seniors Kevin Lisch, Tommie Liddell III and Barry Eberhardt, Billiken basketball fans probably are wondering what to expect when the boys in blue take the court again next year. Offseason training and development, overall team youth and the unknown factor of a recruiting class that features two standout Australian players make any expectations about next year's team severely mercurial.

Bills look to bounce back

Bobby Schindler March 25, 2009
Both the men's and women's tennis teams are looking to bounce back this week after some tough losses last week. The Billiken men (7-5 overall) lost 6-1 against Southern Illinois last Friday. "It was pretty disappointing," said James MacArthur, No.2 singles.

Late-game comeback not enough

Andrew Bush March 18, 2009
The eighth inning did not go according to plan for the Saint Louis University baseball team in their loss to North Dakota yesterday in at SLU. "When you have all the momentum on your side and then give up one big inning, it definitely hurts," pitcher Scott Turmail said.

Meticulous work irrelevant once tourney begins

Joe George March 18, 2009
The palpable energy that surrounds the NCAA men's basketball tournament cannot be found in any other sporting event. 65 teams come together from all across the country with one goal in mind: cutting down the nets. It's true, for some that goal may seem a bit loftier than others.

This system does not need fixing

Andrew Bush March 18, 2009
Unfortunately, the last day of spring break and Selection Sunday coincided this year. This meant that during my four-hour drive back to St. Louis, I was forced to listen to scathing radio commentary about the conspiracies and flaws littering this year's scandalous NCAA tournament bracket.
