Sports have always consumed a large portion of sophomore guard Katie Paganelli's life. She was exposed to them early in her childhood-something that she believes made her a better player for Saint Louis University. "I had three older brothers, so I definitely had sports ingrained in my mind," Paganelli said.

After a surprising season last year, the Saint Louis University Women's Basketball team is hoping to capitalize on their success this year. The team is 2-5 through Nov. 30. Coach Shimmy Gray-Miller has transformed the team from one that won just four games in 2004-05 to one that captured the program's first conference tournament win since 2002.

Men: Great expectations

Andrew Pollock November 30, 2007
The men's basketball team enters the season with high expectations and a new sense of purpose. Leading the rebuilding effort is new coach Rick Majerus, who brings an illustrious résumé and a proven system of winning. Majerus, who accumulated a 422-147 coaching record in seventeen seasons split between Marquette, Ball State and, most notably, Utah, has never had a losing season in his career and has missed the postseason only twice.

Q&A with Shimmy Gray-Miller

How does this team compare to others you've coached? This is the best team I've seen since I've been here. I know the record doesn't show that, but this team works harder than any other and has the potential to do great things in the future. Our team is mainly freshmen and sophomores.

What are your goals for this season? I would hope that number one goal is academics. It's most important that they move that agenda forward and culminating with graduation. The second goal would probably be to improve their culture of basketball in their lives.

Vosburgh’s View: Border showdown proves exiting matchup to watch

Max Vosburgh November 30, 2007
In a year when Kansas was picked to finish fourth in the Big 12 North, a year when head coach Mark Mangino was given an ultimatum-win or you're out-and a year started by controversy surrounding the quarterback position, it would have been too much like a Cinderella story for the Jayhawks to end up winning the national championship.

Vosburgh’s View: Instant replay option hinders baseball realism

Max Vosburgh November 16, 2007
Major League Baseball made one of its biggest mistakes in 2003 when it began awarding home field advantage in the World Series to the team that won the All-Star game. Now, the MLB is on the verge of making another idiotic move. On Tuesday Nov. 6, general managers approved a proposal to use instant replay on a limited basis.

"For the men, Illinois-Chicago will probably be the best team we see all year; so we might be the underdog against them.

Men's basketball coach Rick Majerus said that he cannot contain himself when it comes to advancing his team.
