Let's be honest, professional sports have always been about cheating. We constantly hear about how professional athletes try to either find the most obscure loopholes in rules, or how they steamroll right past the "gray area" of infringement and enter the realm of blatant cheating.

So far during this year's Federation Internationa le de Basketball Amateur Americas Championship, the U.S. Men's National basketball team is, big surprise, dominating the rest of the world. The U.S. squad has posted an impressive 117 points per game while the average margin of victory has been 43 points.

Fonke receives A-10 recognition

Despite the Mizuno Tiger Classic tournament being the first official test for the Saint Louis University volleyball team, the Billikens were able to rally in Baton Rouge, La., going 2-1 Aug. 24 and 25. "The games this weekend were the first we've played as a team, and we were really excited because we didn't know what to expect or whether we would gel together," sophomore Bridget Fonke said.

Donigan: Hardest schedule in recent years

0-1-1. While this current record for the Saint Louis University men's soccer team seems a little lack-luster, it does not reflect the game experience and mental toughness that the Billikens have gained from their two exhibition games, according to sophomore goalkeeper Ross Kaufman.

Cross Country Jon Bell was named the interim men's and women's cross country head coach by the Saint Louis University Department of Athletics Aug. 21 and officially took over Aug. 27. He replaced Mike Nelson, who resigned from SLU and is currently the head coach of Marquette's cross-country program.

Women’s soccer hoping for upbeat season

The women's soccer team returns to action this fall looking to build on the consistent growth it has seen in the past seasons. Coach Tim Champion returns several starters including sophomore standout Julia Bradenberg, last year's winner of the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year award.

The upcoming 2007 men's soccer season will be a test for a young and eager squad. The Billikens will be losing seven seniors from a year ago, not to mention their top three leaders in points. "We have a big group of capable guys who have been waiting behind those seniors for a chance to play.

Women’s soccer A-10 champs add strong freshmen to roster

The returning A-10 champions women's soccer team is looking to have a stellar season. Building on last season, which saw the second A-10 championship in a row and a NCAA appearance, the Bills have the makings of a great team. Eleven incoming freshmen, all the tops of their divisions and some of the top recruits, have committed to join the squad this fall.

Late season surge caps off a great softball season

The Billiken softball team ended their season on a roll that almost led to an Atlantic 10 Championship. After a 26-31 record in the regular season, the Lady Bills had their sights set on a NCAA tournament berth. That mark didn't seem attainable at the beginning of the year when the team dropped its first seven games.

Baseball falls short against Temple in extra innings

This week saw Billiken baseball take on Temple in Philadelphia, and try to take on Missouri State before foul weather caused the game to be cancelled. The Bills first took on Temple in a three game series. Game one began with a single to center from Ryan Crespi, followed by an RBI double by Tom Pinnell.

Disillusioned senior fears sports fan status in future

The grim reality of being a senior on the verge of graduation does not hit you all at once. No, it comes in the little moments where the reality of your age is pointed out to you in a way so obvious that it becomes impossible to deny that, as far as the student body of SLU is concerned, you're an old fart.
