Advertising Club, Southwest Airlines To Sponsor Informational Event

You are now free to move about the country.

Thanks to Southwest Airlines and Saint Louis University’s Advertising Club, students can win free plane tickets for spring break, summer vacation or a graduation “bon voyage.” When a student buys a cookie for 50 cents, he or she can register to win a free pair of airline tickets to fly anywhere in the United States that Southwest flies.

The Advertising Club, in conjunction with Southwest Airlines, will be sponsoring an informational event on Tuesday, Feb. 22 in the Quad. The event starts at 9 a.m. and lasts until supplies run out.

Even when the refreshments are gone, the Advertising Club will continue to introduce students to the field of advertising.

Students from all majors are welcome to join the club, which plans events based on student interests. Bill Tyler, Communication Professor and internship director, serves as advisor for the club.

Recently, members have designed flyers and visited agencies such as Rogers Townsend and Hughes Group. They have also toured Bruton Strubi Photography Studio and had the opportunity to network with professionals in the advertising field. Members will produce a radio commercial at Clayton Studios next week, and a visit to Technisonic Television Studio is also planned for this semester.

Members volunteer at Delta Gamma Center for Children with Visual Impairments and The Shining Lights Tree Lot.

The ad club worked in conjunction with the business school on campaign ideas and concept ideas for the American Heart Association. The organization’s representatives chose the ad club’s concept for display on two billboards and in two newspaper ads for its East St. Louis campaign.

Creative and account executive guest speakers, both recent graduates and those well-established in their careers, have come to speak with members. The club holds its meetings every Tuesday night from 5 to 6 p.m. in the publication lab in Xavier Hall.
