BossTones Set To Rock Scottish Rite

Five dollars doesn’t even cover the cost of parking at a Riverport concert, but that’s all it costs for Saint Louis University students to see the Mighty Mighty BossTones Wednesday.

Citizen King will open for the ska-rock band at 8 p.m. April 19. The concert will be held at the Scottish Rite Auditorium, located on Lindell Boulevard, across the street from Pius Library.

The last major concert SLU hosted was Blessid Union of Souls, four years ago. Jason Sengheiser, a member of SLU’s concert committee, hopes that a successful BossTones concert will provide impetus for more shows.

“This is kind of the starting point, and if it goes well, we’ll be able to do it again in the future; maybe twice next year,” Sengheiser said.

The concert committee is made up of members from KSLU, the Student Activities Board, the Student Government Association, the International Student Federation and the Black Student Alliance. Student Development is providing the money for the concert.

“Tickets can be purchased in the Office of Student Life in the Busch Memorial Center. Student Development wants to sell at least 2,000 tickets,” Sengheiser said. The concert committee is hoping to build off the success of the recent Fishbone concert, which 600 students attended.

Junior Noelle Brindell, a worker in student life, said that the concert “should be incredible, for SLU’s first big-name band.”

Almost 200 tickets have been sold, but Director of Student Life Phil Lyons said that he would like to see more advance ticket sales. Tickets will be available in more locations next week, including the cafeterias and the Quad.

More than half of the tickets for the Fishbone concert were walk-up sales, but Lyons suggests that students purchase tickets for the Mighty Mighty BossTones in advance.

“I want the students to buy them. It’s a great band,” Lyons said.

All tickets are for general-admission seating.
