SAB Prepares Full Week Of Activities:

Fusion, HBO K.O. Nation, Movie Preview

Between keeping students buff in the Billiken Club to entertaining them in Kelly Auditorium, the Student Activities Board has many activities slated for SLU students in the upcoming week.

The fun begins this Friday with Fusion, a metropolitan-area party hosted by Washington University. Wash U, Webster University, Fontbonne College, Maryville University, and the University of Missouri-Saint Louis are involved in the party.

“The thing we want to stress is that this is as much our party as Washington’s,” said Mike Rozier, vice president of research and development for SAB. “This was paid for partly by the activities fee from our students, so we want to make sure they go.”

The party will include a disc jocky, free pizza and soda, and dollar drafts.

Shuttles will continuously be going back and forth from SLU to Wash U. beginning at 9 p.m. SLU students, who need to bring their IDs, can bring a guest.

K.O. Nation, from 2-6 p.m. in the Billiken Club on Sept. 9, is an event with many options for students. A live HBO boxing event broadcasts at 4 p.m., a free-style rapping contest, a DJ, a PlayStation setup, and various stations throughout the Billiken Club for students to test their own boxing skills.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun,” said David Young, an SAB general member. “Every student is going to want to be at this.”

Each station at K.O. Nation will present the participant with a free gift such as a t-shirt or hat, and free food and beverages will be provided. There will also be a chance for students to enter to win a trip for two, all-expenses-paid vacation to Atlantic City, N.J., or Las Vegas to an HBO World.

Almost Famous, another SAB event, will be playing in the Kelly Auditorium at 7 p.m. on Sept. 13.

“It’s about a dorky kid in high school who writes for his school newspaper,” said SAB president Ryan Murphy. “Rolling Stones gets ahold of his work and he gets assigned to follow a band around.”

Tickets, which are free, can be obtained in Student Life or the SAB office.
