With second semester beginning, many students are concerned about getting a job after graduation. The Career Center is putting on Spring Job Expo 2000 on Jan. 31, from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., in the Simon Recreation Center.
Any Saint Louis University student or alumni, who is seeking a job or internship or is simply interested in exploring the job market, are encouraged to attend.
This job fair is designed to help graduating students identify and secure full-time employment opportunities, said Dee Kofet, career services and internship coordinator. She added that it also gives undergraduates an opportunity to explore possible internships and other summer opportunities.
Students from all majors are encouraged to attend, though many of the businesses are looking for students with teaching, engineering, computer and business skills. Later in the semester, there will be a Social Fair (for social science majors) and a Health Care Fair.
Not only does the fair help students, it also aids employers. This program enables employers to market their company or organization, meet with SLU students from various majors, collect resumes and schedule interviews.
Students should dress professionally and bring resumes with them, Kofet said.
More than 50 businesses who will be present at the job expo. Some of them include Adam’s Mark Hotel, A. G. Edwards Inc., Ameren UE, Build-A-Bear Workshop Inc., Buchard and Associates, Camp Matfoni, Girl Scouts of America, Commerce Bank, and Navy Civilian Jobs.
If interested in a particular business, there is a list of all the businesses attending at http://careers.slu.edu.
“This is a great place to go if you are looking for a job. The environment is extremely laid back and pleasant,” Kofet said. “The businesses are showing you what they are about, and they want to get our SLU students involved.”
