Res Life adjusts summer options

New summer housing options have been made available, adding Grand Forest Apartments to the original option of Marguerite Hall. Also, the University will begin giving students the option of signing 12-month contracts in Grand Forest.

Approximately 50 summer spaces and 50 year-long contract spaces will be available in Grand Forest this summer, explained Argyle Wade, director of Housing. Another 50 spaces, as well as those spaces for summer staff, will be located in Marguerite.

Originally, the concern for cleaning all the summer housing apartments led the Department of Housing and Residence Life to limit the available spaces to Marguerite.

In order to qualify for summer housing on campus, a student must be registered for at least one summer school course at Saint Louis University or be taking a summer internship or major-related job approved by the student”s academic advisor. Housing for summer can be purchased by the week.

The idea of 12-month contracts has been in discussion for some time, Wade said. ‘Some students said it”s frustrating to move in and out all the time, especially those with difficult majors,’ he added.

The cost for the 12-month contracts are based on the same price structure as the nine-month contracts, starting at $6,625 for a two-bedroom, three occupant without a balcony and topping off at $8,660 for a two-bedroom, two-occupant with a balcony.

Wade noted that the program has the potential to expand to include other apartment complexes in the future.

Marguerite has begun undergoing renovations to convert the lounges on floors 3, 5 and 7 into full-service community kitchens, with refrigerator, sink, stove and oven.

Marguerite pricing begins at $111 per week for a double, and $157.50 per week for a single.

The assignment process for summer housing will follow the guidelines set up by the Student Government Association last semester, which assigns priority based on the number of semesters lived on campus and then by the number of credit hours earned post-high school graduation.

Applications for summer housing are due March 7, with notification of summer housing assignment after March 17.
