President: Maria Rozier

The current Student Government Association executive board has made great strides in opening communication channels between students and administrators. If the large-scale endeavors discussed by each ticket are to come to fruition, those communication lines will play an integral role in those achievements. Senator Maria Rozier is the best candidate in this election to maintain strong lines of communication, as a speaker and student representative, with groups such as the Board of Trustees and the President’s Coordinating Council. During the debates, Rozier established herself as a better rhetorician than her opponent. Rozier’s platform, which was better articulated, displayed her leadership abilities and a fusion of vision and feasibility. Her plan to reorganize the executive board of SGA by removing the BSA and ISF presidents should be pursued by all parties involved, but she needs to communicate with the students currently in those seats. Establishing four voted-upon multicultural seats is an equitable plan. Students will reap the benefits of the goals Rozier has established in her platform, while she is still in office. Her plans to address parking concerns are feasible, and could finally solve the parking crunch, especially for upperclassmen. However, Rozier needs to reexamine her ticket’s platform of the elimination Student Organizational Cabinets. These groups allow student organizations, especially fledgling ones, to communicate with each other and the administration.Vice president Evan Krauss clearly established himself as a student leader this year. Krauss’ belief that actions speak louder than words holds true. Such modesty, however, rarely helps a president, who is required to advocate student concerns to administrators. SGA is about representation, and while his credentials are lengthy, his ability to represent the student body as president falls short. The president must serve a function, not merely build friendships, and Krauss’ numerous talents are not suited for that role. Perhaps, Krauss would better serve the students in a capacity where he can be more hands-on.
