Business journal recognizes SLU

The St. Louis Business Journal recognized Saint Louis University President Lawrence Biondi, S.J., and dean of the SLU John Cook School of Business Ellen Harshman, Ph. D., as “influentials” last week.

The St. Louis Business Journal, an internet and printed publication, provides vast information and reports concerning local and national businesses, finances, technology, sales, featured job opportunities and employers.

In its seventh annual installation of the “influential” honor, The St. Louis Business Journal searched for those individuals “who have gone beyond being influential to become legends in our region and beyond” and selected 10 to hold this distinction.

Biondi, who was declared a “Citizen of the Year” by The St. Louis Post-Dispatch earlier this year as well as a “legend” by The St. Louis Business Journal, received this award for his contributions to SLU and neighboring areas by administering resources to academics, faculty conscription, research developments, financial aid, scholarships and innovative technology.

Harshman, among other SLU alum, was also recognized as an “influential” in the greater St. Louis area on account of her contributions to “what makes SLU distinctive, including its Jesuit commitment to community services and its nationally recognized entrepreneurship program,” according to a University press release.

Harshman has held several leadership positions within SLU over the years. Beginning in 1972, she has assumed the responsibilities of associate dean of the business school, director of the career planning and placement center, assistant to the vice president of student development as well as her current role as dean of the business school.

The St. Louis Business Journal recognized Harshman for her service and contributions to the city of St. Louis as one of the “Most Influential Business Women” in 2004.

Other current or emeriti members of SLU’s board of trustees, including William H.T. Bush, Bob Clark, Charles Drury, Tom Dunne, L.B. Eckelkamp Jr., Shaun Hayes, Jack Pruellage, W. Michael Ross, Michael Shanahan and J. Kim Tucci have previously received this award.

The St. Louis Business Journal “Influentials” were formally recognized during a breakfast reception in which Biondi was the special guest on Wednesday, March 1, in the John and Lucy Cook Hall.
