For at least one Saint Louis University student, Fall Break ended with empty pockets.
Shortly after midnight on Oct. 21, a student on the periphery of campus was the victim of a holdup.
While walking to his car on Lindell Boulevard, near Lindell Towers West, a dark-blue Nissan pulled up with New York license plates. One of the two men occupying the vehicle threatened the victim with a weapon and then took his wallet, phone and keys. The vehicle then drove west, leaving the student unharmed.
This is the third incident of strong-arm robbery near campus this academic school year, according to Director of Public Safety Michael Lauer. He said that such a number is expected.
“It’s a normal number, and there’s no spike,” Lauer said.
DPS is currently closely cooperating with St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department in investigating the crime, which appears to be linked with another robbery involving a similar vehicle that occurred downtown earlier that evening.
DPS officers responded to the Lindell robbery after they were altered by a police radio that they monitor. Campus security that night was at its usual levels, despite many students being off campus because of Fall Break.
“We don’t cut staff during [vacation] … we always try to be visible, especially on the perimeter of campus,” Lauer said.
