GRO set to rock local music fans

Green River Ordinance is making a triumphant return to St. Louis.
The five-member band—Josh Jenkins (vocals/guitar/piano), Geoff Ice (bass), Jamey Ice (guitar), Joshua Wilkerson (guitar) and Denton Hunter (drums)—is returning to St. Louis on Nov. 10 at The Pageant with David Cook after previously playing here with him.
“We had the same booking agency,” Jamey Ice said. “They kind of just threw us on tour with him … But we really hit it off, and he invited us back … We have spent so much time with all of them that we’ve become really good friends … I’m really pumped. His crowds are usually great.”
The Fort Worth, Texas-based band has a lot of experience behind them, having played together at bars in Texas since the age of 15. Recently, the group has been working hard, making touring much easier.
“We’ve been on tour pretty much since June,” Ice said. “We fill up the can with gas and get some new tires … So, there’s not a lot of new preparation.”
According to Ice, Green River Ordinance brings the energy they’ve built up over the years to every show.
“We’ve been kind of busting our chops and playing all these Texas bars and frat parties for so long,” he said. “In Texas, people like to sing along and dance. We try to bring that to our shows.”
In doing so, they hope to transfer their enthusiasm to the audience.
“We want it to be fun. We want you to be singing along,” Ice said. “You definitely won’t come to one of our concerts and not have fun … You’re definitely going to sing along.”
Ice has fond memories of performing in St. Louis.
“Last time we were [in St. Louis] was actually the Fourth of July, and we played underneath the [Gateway Arch],” he said. “There were, like, 15,000 people there … It was one of the coolest Fourth of Julys I’ve ever had.” Ice feels that the hard work has all been worth it.
“We’ve got to play some great shows … The fact that playing guitar is what I do for a living is pretty incredible,” he said. “I wake up thinking, ‘How am I doing this?’”
