SGA candidate platforms announced

Unite Ticket

President: JP Johnson
· Increase safety measures on campus
· Renegotiate Chartwells contract to sell food at market value
· Increased transportation planning for the Grand Bridge closing
· Review two year housing policy to alleviate burden on students
· Develop operating budget based on Wellness Fee revenue projections to plan for library renovation/expansion
· More transparency by having increased relations with the student media groups
· Creating a student commons, CSO office space and more recreational options in Bauman-Eberhardt

VP for Internal Affairs: Jon Roper
· Work toward more student participation at Town Hall meetings
· Have quarterly retreats for CSO leaders and SGA to increase cooperation
· Assign a specific number of CSOs to each senator
· Work to keep students updated on what’s happening in each individual college

VP for Student Orgs.: Katie Anderson
· Work with CSOs to have more collaboration
· Work with computer science students to create SLU iPhone applications that can detail SLU CSOs
· Improve CSO efficiency to maximize the Student Activity Fee value

Financial VP: David Ambrust
· Expand finance buddy system to include auditing CSOs that request activity fee dollars and making it a requirement for CSOs to return unused funds
· Put surplus dollars toward the special projects fund
· Make SGA more prudent with students’ money so CSOs won’t suffer a percentage cut

Academic VP: Maxwell Jordan
· Provide workshops and classes on test taking, post-grad work and research practices to increase retention rates and increase standards
· Increase involvement in Big Brother and Big Sister programs to encourage local student recruitment
· Work with the administration to create a commission of students and staff who will work to boost academic rankings

Diversity/Social Justice VP: Lorenzo Herman
· Create a SGA/CSO sponsored day of service every month
· More transparency to committees dealing with diversity and social justice
· Review institutional barriers

VP for International Affairs: Heyun Fan
· Make it mandatory for two dorms to be open for International Students during breaks
· Provide more campus jobs for international students
· Work with Counseling and Health Services to highlight the depression and home-sickness international students face
· Recruit current students to tutor in the ESL program

·Have committee chairs only take part in one committee to better devote their time to those tasks

·Provide resources and education about organizations, clubs and departments to help students find their niche
·Create a workshop for International Students and CSOs
·Create and update online resources for prospective and current students
·Work on the development of Leaders of the Pack to encourage cooperation and relationships between CSOs

Financial VP: Tim Janczewski
·Separate annual and spot-funding guidelines
·Better utilize the Finance Panel
·Further the goals of the current Executive Board

Academic VP: Katie Becherer
·Offer full Chinese and Arabic programs
·Promote early internships with a more centralized database
·Improve the advising system
·Promote interdisciplinary study for current students to make cross-listed and interdisciplinary classes more available

Diversity/Social Justice VP: Oscar Vasquez
·Create an increasingly welcoming atmosphere for prospective students
·Have Chartwells offer more food options for students of different faith backgrounds, vegans and vegetarians
·Hold more than one ‘Make a Difference Day’ per semester
·Work with the Center for Service and Community Engagement to make service more accessible to all students

VP for International Affairs: Adam Jin
·To allow international students to room together while placing them on floors with American students
·To create an American culture handbook for all international students to receive upon their arrival at SLU
·To extend and improve the host family program
